Subjects to Prepare

The syllabus for most bank and government jobs covers the following topics. While each exam may give different weightage to different sections, your preparation should focus on these main topics:

  • Reasoning
    Designed to test basic logic and thinking, questions in this section cover coding-decoding, analogy, odd-one-out, blood relation, direction test, ranking test, Venn diagram, input & output, letter- and number-series, finding day and time, logical arrangement of words, pair and word formation, sitting arrangement, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Non-verbal Reasoning
    This section tests for classification, mirror image and water image, embedded figure, counting figures, paper cutting, paper folding, analogy, and 4,5, and 7 figure series.
  • Analytical Reasoning
    Here you will be tested for assumptions and arguments, course of action, inference, cause and effects, conclusion, and decision making.
  • General Studies
    These include tests for general awareness of geography, history, economy, general science, and polity.
  • Arithmetic
    Covering basics of school-level maths, topics include basic calculation, number system, decimal and fractions, simplification, square roots and cube roots, surds and indices, HCF and LCM, time and distance, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, simple interest,
  • English
    While you don’t have to prepare as a literature student, knowledge of basic grammar, verbs, tense, clause, conjunction, subject-verb agreement, gerund, infinitive, narration, preposition, adverbs, and other topics will be tested.
  • Vocabulary
    This section covers confused and misused words, root words, synonym and antonyms, one word for many, idiom, phrase, and phrasal verbs.
  • Others
    Other topics include superfluous expression, word and sentence arrangement, Cloze Test, fill in the blanks, detecting errors, passages, and sentence improvement.
